My name is Marcel van de Hoef (“I”, “my”, “me”). I am the owner of Beyond Expertise, curator of the Meeting Strategist blog and host of the eponymous podcast. As a former journalist, transparency is very important to me. That’s why I have laid out below what personal information I collect, when this happens, for what reasons, how I use it and how I keep it safe.
Newsletter subscription
I might collect, save and use your email address to be able to distribute newsletters. I will only do this once you have submitted a newsletter request and confirmed your email address through the link you have received in your inbox. I will not use your email address for other purposes.
Use of analytics and cookies
I use some necessary and functional cookies for my website, which allow you to navigate and use key features on the site. Furthermore, I use Google Analytics as a reporting platform to get insight into how my website is performing. Through this tool, I collect metadata about the number of visitors, pageviews and popular content. To me this is vital information, as it allows me to constantly improve my website and content.
In May 2023, I started using Hotjar in order to better understand users’ needs and to optimize this service and experience. Hotjar is a technology service that helps me better understand users’ experience (e.g. how much time they spend on which pages, which links they choose to click, what users do and don’t like, etc.) This enables me to build and maintain this service with user feedback. Hotjar uses cookies and other technologies to collect data on users’ behavior and their devices. This includes a device's IP address (processed during your session and stored in a de-identified form), device screen size, device type (unique device identifiers), browser information, geographic location (country only), and the preferred language used to display this website. Hotjar stores this information on my behalf in a pseudonymized user profile. Hotjar is contractually forbidden to sell any of the data collected on my behalf. Parties who have access to your data
Apart from the parties mentioned above, the only parties that I share your data with are my email distribution service Mailchimp and my web hosting partners Webflow (www.beyondexpertise.nl) and Squarespace (www.meetingstrategist.org). By their own accounts, all these companies comply with the GDPR.
Retaining your data
I will retain your email address until you unsubscribe via the link included in the footer of my newsletter. If you want access to, correct or delete your personal data stored in the aforementioned systems, please let me know and I will respond to your request within 28 days.
Securing your data
I have taken appropriate technical, physical and organizational measures to make sure your data is safe at all times. I intend to comply with the demands of article 32 of the GDPR.
Right to file a complaint
If you have doubts about the way I process your data, please contact me through the contact details below. You also have the right to file a complaint with the privacy authorities in The Netherlands or the responsible authorities in the country you live in.
Updates to this privacy policy
This privacy policy was originally created on October 1, 2021. It will be updated from time to time to reflect changes in technology, business operations or any other reason I determine is necessary or appropriate. When I make changes, I will update the “Effective date” at the top of the privacy policy. I encourage you to check back periodically to review this privacy policy for any changes since your last visit.
